The story is a toast to the idealism and character of the now dubbed “greatest generation”, and a little roast of their undying dedication to the classic family road trip. More specifically, it is the story of Don Browning, a middle-aged writer, who returns home and decides to finally take his father's ashes to his childhood home, as requested. The  family trip shifts smoothly from the present to Don's memories of the annual, torturous vacations of his childhood. Leaving Iowa is a postcard to anyone who has ever found himself or herself driving alone on a road, revisiting fond memories of his or her youth.

PLEASE DONATE
Theatres all over the nation, including Chautauqua Playhouse have suffered a great loss of income because of  closure during the pandemic.  Now that we are reopened, the attendance has fallen by about 40% since pre-pandemic and you know what has happened to prices for everything. We thank all who have donated  to help keep our theatre afloat, but we are still in need of more income to keep our doors open.  Won't you please consider donating to Chautauqua Playhouse?  Any amount is appreciated and your donation is deductible to the extent of IRS regulations. We have teamed with Paypal in order to make it easier for you to donate online.
